  • The DNC’s Proposed RCV Ban for 2028

Next week- Choice is on the Table

On August 15, members of the Democratic National Committee are meeting to vote on rules concerning presidential primaries. One of the proposed rules would ban the use of ranked choice voting (RCV) in the 2028 presidential primaries.

Six states have already used RCV in Democratic presidential primaries in 2020 and/or 2024 to select their nominee, and an additional six have used it to select their delegates to the Democratic National Convention.

RCV — especially in competitive, contentious primaries — makes more votes count meaningfully, unites parties behind nominees, and gives voters an insurance policy if their favorite candidate drops out.
